The Storystorm 2020 Pledge is now closed! Thanks for participating!
If you’ve been here all month, you’ve been generating tons of ideas!
Luckily you don’t need tons to “win” the Storystorm challenge. You just need 30 of them!
When you have 30 ideas, you can qualify to win one of 10 AMAZING Storystorm Grand Prizes—feedback on your best 5 ideas from one of these kidlit agents!
- Erin Murphy
- Ammi-Joan Paquette
- Holly McGhee
- Kat Rushall
- Jennifer March Soloway
- Lori Kilkelly
- Lisa Royce Agency
- Stephan Fraser
- John Cusick
- Alyssa Eisner Henkin
(More on this tomorrow!)
In order to qualify for a Grand Prize, your name must be on the registration post AND the pledge below. (The daily prizes only required registration.)
If you have 30 ideas, put your right hand on a picture book and repeat after me:
I do solemnly swear that I have faithfully executed
the Storystorm 30-ideas-in-30-days challenge,
and will, to the best of my ability,
parlay my ideas into picture book manuscripts.
Now I’m not saying all 30 ideas have to be good. Some may just be titles, some may be character quirks. Some may be problems and some may create problems when you sit down to write. Some may be high-concept and some barely a concept. But…they’re yours, all yours!
You have until February 5th at 11:59:59PM EST to sign the pledge by leaving a comment on this post.
PLEASE COMMENT ONLY ONCE.
The name or email you left on the registration post and the name or email you leave on this winner’s pledge SHOULD MATCH. However, when you comment, WordPress also logs information that allows me to recognize you, so don’t worry.
Again, please COMMENT ONLY ONCE. If you make a mistake, contact me instead of leaving a second comment.
Remember, this is an honor system pledge. You don’t have to send in your ideas to prove you’ve got 30 of them. If you say so, I’ll believe you! Honestly, it’s that simple. (Wouldn’t it be nice if real life were that straightforward.)
Are you ready to sign?
Then GO FOR IT! Let’s see your name below!

Thanks Tara, I loved this kick start to my new decade of creativeness. STORYSTORM not only got my juices flowing it helped to create a pattern. This month I managed 49 ideas and submitted two picturebook manuscripts.

I took last year off because I was frustrated at having too many ideas which weren’t turning into drafts let alone manuscripts. It feels so good to be back and to have completed the challenge in a more thoughtful, deeper, more encouraging way (which I needed at this point in my journey.) Thank-you, thank-you to everyone involved. I’ve already scribbled two very crude drafts and look forward to the months ahead!

Thank you, Tara, and all of your contributors, for showing up everyday to make it easier for me to show up everyday. StoryStorm provided a ray of sunshine in an otherwise dreary month. Like many of your contributors, I find I get ideas for story from a multitude of places. However, in the past, most of my ideas lingered for a bit before evaporating. I figured only those that stuck with me were worthy. StoryStorm changed that! It forced me to write everything down – no matter where I was or what I was doing. Notes on my phone, as well as voice messages to myself. Yes, I wrote on envelopes and napkins. Later I complied them all onto my StoryStorm 2020 document. Now I have over 30 ideas and the questions some of them posed all in one place. And one idea has already become a very rough draft!

I am so ready to sign the pledge! I came up with 50 ideas and 5 idea fragments that might turn into ideas. I’m really excited about some of the ideas and can’t wait to flesh the rest of them out and find even more gems.
I missed some posts that I can’t wait to read…and I’m hoping I’ll have a nice collection of post-Storystorm ideas, too.
Thank you so much for this amazing challenge, Tara. It has made such a HUGE difference to me and many others. You rock!!!! (((Hugs)))

This was my first year trying this and it was so fun 🙂 I saw somewhere that someone has a February challenge to take each of their Storystorm ideas and create a sketch for each idea, one per day, for each idea from Storystorm. I’m going to try it! Thank you for all the work you do with this and for helping inspire writers!

I’m taking the pledge! Even though I’m not sure if I’ll qualify for prizes because I can’t remember if I registered this year. I HAVE registered in years past, though, because I got all the emails this month…and I’ll honestly say that I wasn’t planning on doing Storystorm this year.
HOWEVER, I got inspired by quite a few of the emails/posts and though I started Storystorm on January 20, I got to 30 ideas this morning.
My plan on Jan 20 was to do a modified version and get to 30 ideas by mid-February as a personal challenge. While not all my ideas are good, it’s definitely helped to open my mind to brainstorming picture book ideas on a daily basis!
Thanks, Tara et al!
