Thank you for sharing Lisia’s talk. I have to admit that I never thought of writers as misfits. I consider writers the force that leads and guides readers. At least, that is what books have always done for me.

Wow, what an appropriate ending, finding your voice, embracing failure, not knowing how to choose success, not taking yourself seriously as a writer, and telling your story when all around you is a mess, good stuff. Thanks!

Wow, Tara…I’ve been weepy on and off all day for so many reasons, only one being the dying of our democracy, and this got me even more. It’s a message of hope that, for some reason, I always hang on to, even though I’ve almost completely “lost my marbles”!

I really needed that. I wasn’t going to sign the pledge because while I wrote down gobs of ideas, over 75, when I saw the prize, I felt I didn’t deserve to try for it. I only had titles. Snippets. That’s not enough. Real Storystormers had fleshed out ideas. But this talk emboldened me to stay in the room with other writers. I’ll sign that pledge now.

Lidia’s comment about the shame we carry for not belonging, about feeling like we don’t deserve to even be in the room resonates so much with my experience as a fellow misfit. My background hasn’t been quite as rocky as Lidia’s, and that in itself is another part of feeling like a misfit sometimes too – doubting that I’m even enough of a misfit! I feel very grateful for all the courageous and generous mentors and allies who fill my life and enable me to keep working through and with the voice that tries to tell me I am not enough. Thanks for sharing Lidia’s beautiful reflection.
