SORRY, THE PLEDGE IS NOW CLOSED!
If you’ve been participating in Storystorm all month, you’ve been generating tons of ideas!
Luckily you don’t need tons to “win” the Storystorm challenge. You just need 30 of them!
When you have 30 ideas, you can qualify to win one of 8 AMAZING Storystorm Grand Prizes—feedback on your best 5 ideas from one of these kidlit agents!
- Ammi-Joan Paquette
- Miranda Paul
- Natascha Morris
- Adria Goetz
- Jennifer March Soloway
- Sean McCarthy
- Susan Hawk
- Liza Fleissig & Ginger Harris-Dontzin
(More on this tomorrow!)
In order to qualify for a Grand Prize, your name must be on the registration post AND the pledge below.
If you have 30 ideas, put your right hand on a picture book and repeat after me:
I do solemnly swear that I have faithfully executed
the Storystorm 30-ideas-in-30-days challenge,
and will, to the best of my ability,
parlay my ideas into picture book manuscripts.
Now I’m not saying all 30 ideas have to be good. Some may just be titles, some may be character quirks. Some may be problems and some may create problems when you sit down to write. Some may be high-concept and some barely a concept. But…they’re yours, all yours!
You have until February 5th at 11:59:59PM EST to sign the pledge by leaving a comment on this post.
PLEASE COMMENT ONLY ONCE.
The name or email you left on the registration post and the name or email you leave on this winner’s pledge SHOULD MATCH. However, when you comment, WordPress also logs information that allows me to recognize you, so don’t worry.
Again, please COMMENT ONLY ONCE. If you make a mistake, contact me instead of leaving a second comment.
Remember, this is an honor system pledge. You don’t have to send in your ideas to prove you’ve got 30 of them. If you say so, I’ll believe you! Honestly, it’s that simple. (Wouldn’t it be nice if real life were that straightforward.)
Are you ready to sign?
Then GO FOR IT! Let’s see your name below!

Yes! I solemnly swear I came up with at least one idea a day, and sometimes several. I haven’t counted them all, but it’s in the 40+ range. Mostly kernels, but so exciting to have such fertile grounds to grow them in during the rest of the year.
The posts were great! They gave me a jumping off point every day, and lots to mull over. Thanks again to everyone who offered their thoughts in the daily blog.
PS, I hope you find my registration. It was a little confusing during the sign up process. I left my name in a comment under somebody else’s registration because I was having difficulty locating where to add my own new comment. I mean I already got the most fabulous grand prize, which is my that creative flow is coming back. But I wouldn’t mind being considered for some of the other prizes being offered here too. 🙂

I’ve done Storystorm before, but this year was different. Previous years the exercise stressed me out. This year was just. plain. FUN. I carried my wee notebook around everywhere and was able to record each fleeting idea. Reading the blog posts and considering generating ideas from so many different perspectives was so refreshing. Thank you for this.

I first saw your PiBoldMo challenge back in 2015, but I wasn’t ready. It took me a few years to finally admit that I want to pursue a career writing children’s books. This year, I was ready! Thanks to Story Storm I have written, ideated and read picture books every day for the last 31 days!. I now have more than 80 (!) PB ideas to mine. I also joined 12X12, so now I am ready to draw on those ideas to write a draft a month–or more–this year. I am so grateful for this challenge, but also for this community of creative and generous humans you have created. Thank you Tara!

Thank you very much for hosting this Tara. It was truly inspiring! In my first year of Storystorm I succeeded in cobbling 31 ideas together for the month. Next years goal is to scrape a little less and create 31 awesome ideas. I am in awe of all those who exceeded 31! Way to go!!!!

Tara, I am so excited to say out loud, “Yes, I do solemnly swear that I have faithfully executed the Storystorm 30-ideas-in 30 days Challenge and will, to the best of my ability, parlay my ideas into picture book manuscripts.” In fact, I just typed in the Notes of my phone over 100 ideas, transferring them from my journal to see how many ideas I had written. I was surprised! I also wrote my January draft story for Julie Hedund’s 12×12 Picture Book Challenge from one of these ideas.
Please thank every author who contributed this year. Their sharing will keep on giving.
This was my 2nd year to participate. I was much more productive this year because I intentionally made time early each day to write. I discovered if I started my day with a quiet time (of prayer, Bible reading, and thanksgiving) followed by a time focused on the daily Storystorm challenge and other related writing, the ideas flowed. My quiet place was often in my car where I could focus and not be pulled away by household responsibilities. Intentional devoted time made the difference for me.

Tara, yes, I am very happy to proclaim, “I do solemnly swear that I have faithfully executed the Storystorm 30-Ideas-in 30 Days Challenge and will, to the best of my ability, parlay my ideas into picture book manuscripts.”
This year (my 2nd year), I intentionally carved out a morning time, usually in my car (away from household distractions), to focus on this challenge after a time of prayerful reflection.
When I retyped my ideas into the Notes of my phone I discovered I had a list of over 100 ideas. Please thank all the contributing authors for inspiring me.
P.S. Please excuse if this is a 2nd comment. I had to retype because my 1st didn’t show up as posted.

Way more than 30 ideas… how many of you are good ones?
Come on little wrigglers, fight your way to full development.
I’ll feed you, and tend you.
When you are full to bursting, plump and juicy – wiggle and surface.
Breathe a strong waft of fresh air. Freedom!
May the book-birds swoop down
devour such scrumptious morsel you have become
Let them happily dine on your metamorphosis.
For children sit hungry for ever more squirmy, wormy stories that help them to fly.

DONE!! I finished with 48 ideas (which is another low for me…I was hoping to beat my 2018 score of 72) Most of my ideas this time around are nonfiction (32) I am excited by the direction my writing has taken.
And, as of this morning, I have 25 rough drafts that I can’t wait to play around with as 14 of them have chapter book/middle grade possibilities. I also revised 16 of my old Storystorm manuscripts for 12 x 12.
Thank you Tara for doing this once again, and a special thank you to all the contributing authors and illustrators for making 2021 a GREAT STORYSTORM!! I will definitely be back next year!!

First-timer with 53 ideas to show . . . when January began I had just lost my mom and wasn’t sure I could muster any energy or creativity. It was in waves and often amidst tears, but this challenge has helped me push through one of the hardest months of my life, and I have emerged with more inspiration and 53 awesome tidbits, titles, and titillating ideas to create stories. If I could do that this year, I can hardly WAIT for next January 😉
Thank you, Tara and guest bloggers for motivation, inspiration, and accountability. It was just what I needed.

From poetry to prose, from lists to literature. My journey is well started with Storystorm 2021. I’m juggling ideas, first drafts and revisions on those just begun this month. Each day has provided opportunities and support from those who have traveled the road before us. This is the first time I participated and I have come away with a PB handbook that will serve me as a creative writer, until next year rolls around and I am inspired again.

I did it! Not only did I participate and come up with ideas every day, but I came up with 70! Granted only about 1% of them will make it to a full draft, then only about half of them to my critique group, but I can work with that… and it’s only February! The Storystorm bloggers have given me lots of tools to generate ideas. If my January ideas aren’t as fruitful as I would like… there’s always the ones I come up with today, tomorrow, the day after… all through the year.
Thank you Tara and Storystorm bloggers. Being part of Storystorm 2021 has been an privilege and an honour.
Also to my fellow Facebook Storystormers… thank you for all of the sharing. Your wonderful stories, videos, memes, etc., have been a highlight 🙂 Looking forward to 2022.

Thank you so much for this inspiring, life changing experience! I came up with 30 ideas this month, but the most important thing is that I learned new ways of bringing inspiration into my daily life. My chances of “losing” my ideas due to bad planning or presumptions are less likely to occur now that I have a healthy respect for just how precious each idea really is. And I’ve made (and will continue to make) creative inspiration a daily habit and a part of my writing goals. Thank you for the lessons and the community. It has all been invaluable.

Thank you for creating this wonderful brainstorming event!! And thanks to all the amazing guest-posters. Far better than im-posters…ba-dum-bump! And all the donated prizes! My first StoryStorm Challenge and I brainstormed many more than 30 ideas, a couple of series ideas, and rough drafts. This was an especially effective challenge. Thanks so much for the special offers and blog posts along the way. I am impressed. My bullet journal for story ideas has plenty of pages and I plan to continue this discipline/practice. I have entered as both lifejourneyadventures247 at gmail .com AND as patricia at patriciatiffanymorris .com because I had the bright idea to update my wordpress blog and change both email address and the blog owner/name during the middle of storystorm. Thank you so much for this amazing challenge, Tara. It has made a HUGE difference in my writing. One of my funniest and quirkiest ideas ever was sparked by a post last year…and turned into a manuscript my agent and I love and is next to go on sub. 🙂
I did make the goal! I came up with 33 fleshed out ideas (one is already a PB) and 6 fragments for a total of 39 ideas. Wahoooo!
But I fell behind on posts while getting ready to host PBParty on my own this year and am determined to dive into them and come up with at least 10 more ideas by the end of this month!
