I LOVE the creative cartoon way this was put together! I get ideas from everywhere too. It is like they float in the air above my head and I just reach up and pluck one like an apple off a tree (not really, but the image is pretty cool). Thank you for a fun start to a Monday. Susan Burdorf

Alan, Your illustrations “are worth a thousand words” of encouragement for us. Thank you for sharing your process. It would be inspiring for us to each create our own wheel that would prompt us when we’re stuck or when we stumble in self-doubt. Sending you energy and “best luck” for your next book…

These are great ways to generate story ideas! And fun too! I used Tara’s book, ABSURD WORDS as a starting point to come up with unusual words that could be used in titles or be the main focus of the story.

Congrats on your books! I’m most looking forward to The Falafel Who Felt Awful. Don’t judge a book by its title, huh? Rubbish. That title tells me the book will be AMAZING. Your visuals were cute, fun, and helpful. I liked the spinning wheel idea in particular. I sometimes do a “dice roll” for exercise when I’m not sure what I want to do that day. Why not do the same for my writing work? Thanks for this helpful post!

I need a big poster of the “Remember that feeling stuck is part of the process” image for my office wall. I tend to castigate myself for that more often than I should. (Zero. That’s how many times I should castigate myself for being human and feeling stuck. Also, “castigate” is a fun word to use. I love it when my brain gives me a treat by throwing in a big word that I have to go look up to make sure I was using it properly and I get the jolt of satisfaction when I see that my brain actually knew what it was talking about!)
