Again, this is not an advertisement, just something I wanted to share.
You probably have a large collection of books. And, if you’re like me, they’re haphazardly scattered all over the house. BUT WHERE IS MY COPY OF [INSERT TITLE HERE]??? Lined up on the staircase, like in Richard Sherman’s apartment from “The Seven Year Itch”? Or in ascending size order on the living room window sill? Or tucked into the bedroom bookcase for a good night’s sleep?

Well, with the app libib, you can create a digital cloud archive of all the titles you own, and to easily add them to your collection, you scan the barcode quickly with your phone (or search and enter them manually). Organize your shelves any way you wish—by genre, by TBR piles, or by location in your home (genius). It is free for up to 5,000 books.
Just search for libib in the App Store or Google Play and download it while you wait for today’s Storystorm post, coming later this afternoon!
HAPPY CATALOGING!

I will definitely find a use for this…
I read a lot of middle grade books. I do a Twitter (X) chat for a middle grade novel each month. But I strive to get the books I read into kids’ hands. I end up giving my chat (and other) books to colleagues to share with kids.
Unfortunately, when I want to reread or revisit, I can’t always recall where I donated the book. I think I’ll play around with LIBIB to see if I can track books. It would also be interesting to go back to the teacher to see if the book is being read and if there are comments.
Thanks for the resource.

I agree, this is brilliant! Today’s a good day to start archiving my books or just look at the app because sometimes it takes me awhile to figure things out! Like the Google calendar. I was slow getting on to that but now, I’m working it. Thanks for both of these organizers, Tara.

What a great way to keep track of what you have. I know where various books are (STEM/STEAM in my office, PB -Chapter books and MG in one bedroom, Field guides and YA in another) – but sometimes I look for a particular book only to (after much searching) remember that I donated it to the library or gave it to a friend. Would be SO helpful to know what is actually on the shelves!

This is just what I need for my organized chaos! I have a small notebook I write down any new book of interest, and carry it with me when I’m going to the bookstore (if I don’t forget the notebook) and I have 500+ books in my personal library that include three bookshelves in my study, and a rolling book cart in my bedroom. Organizing and cataloging is going to take some time, but I just signed up and I currently have 9 collections to add to. I like the idea of having my whole library at my fingertips. This is going to be fun. Thank you!

Meant to add that I use it for all kidlit books I read so I remember for comps, etc. I divide into separate Collections: BB, PB, MG, YA. Then add tags for genres and hooks like: biography, lyrical, rhyming, humor, heartfelt, environmental, friendship, kindness, etc. Makes it very easy to find again!

I love this app!! I’m using it to catalog not only my thousands of books, but also my movies and board games! (I’m considering springing for the pro membership, so I can create collections for my children who no longer live at home and add them as librarians–so I can see at a glance what books my grandkids have on their shelves and what books the “book grandma” should buy them for birthdays, Christmas, and other holidays!)
